Middle School Studio Art

The middle school studio art elective is an exploration of a variety of media and techniques. Students learn about basic art concepts as they apply the visual elements and principles of design in their work. Students will explore a variety of art processes and materials such as painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, and graphic design. Emphasis is placed on understanding the elements of art and principles of design as a basis for composition. Self-expression, problem-solving, and experimentation through play are important components of making art. Thinking critically and creatively about historical and contemporary works of art is intended to give students an appreciation for the art world as students will begin to develop their ability to observe, analyze, interpret, and evaluate works of art.
