The Cedars Retirement Community. Portland, ME

This two day community based project interfaced with intergenerational dementia patients at The Cedars Retirement Community in Portland Maine. Watercolor painting blended with music integration as means to evoke emotion, stimulate positive interactions and manage stress. Student began and ended each workshop by singing songs to activate subcortical circuits, the limbic system, and the emotional reward system, provoking sensations of welfare and pleasure. Songs such as Louis Armstrong’s Such a Wonderful World and Judy Garland’s Over the Rainbow were used to forge relationships within the community and start as a jumping off point and ending point in the art making process.

“"What we play is life.”
